Still going strong! During an interview on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show yesterday, Jada Pinkett Smith delved right into her marriage to Will Smith and her philosophy on relationships in general, and it sounds like the couple of 18 years have a rock-solid foundation.
During the chat, in which Pinkett Smith was promoting her upcoming film Magic Mike XXL, she got real about the ups and downs of a long-standing union. “We have traveled and you’ve gotta be strong. It takes work — you know that!” she said. “Here’s the deal, Howard. You’ve gotta trust who you’re with. And at the end of the day, right, I’m not here to be anybody’s watcher. I’m not his watcher. He’s a grown man.”
Her loyalty, she added, stems from her husband’s core values. “Here’s what I trust: The man that Will is…is a man of integrity. He’s got all the freedom in the world,” she said. “As long as Will can look himself the mirror and be okay? I’m good.”
The parents of two are one of the biggest power couples in Hollywood, and Pinkett Smith attributes that to his support of her career. How did the Gotham star know that her hubby was lifting her up? “When you can look in your man’s eyes and know that he’s holding you down and that he loves you.” she explained.
The duo tied the knot in 1997 after two years of dating, but Pinkett Smith told Stern that she now thinks she was “too young” to get married at the time. “It did work out, but let me tell you: It worked out in a way that thank God I had a husband who’s a gangster partner. Taking that road from 25 to 44.”
If the couple that grows together stays together, then the Smiths have many more years of wedded bliss ahead of them!
