The Imitation Game star Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter tied the knot yesterday on Valentine’s Day in Mottistone, an English island Lord Tennyson once called home — how romantic!

The couple, who are expecting their first child, exchanged vows at the medieval Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, and then welcomed about 40 guests to the Mottistone Manor, a 650-acre estate.

“It’s a beautiful place and the gardens are very picturesque,” island resident Ross Findon told People. “There are sprawling lawns surround[ed] by roses, a nearby woodland with a stunning bluebell meadow that is really special. It’s a very romantic little spot.”

The bride’s family is related to the former owners of the mansion, making it a picturesque and personal venue for the couple. “The manor is right opposite the church so it will be very private, which I’m sure was the intention,” a local told People.

The guest list included Benedict’s Sherlock co-star Andrew Scott as well as actor Tom Hiddleston. And though she couldn’t be there, 80-year-old actress Judi Dench — who has known Cumberbatch since he was a child — told People that she hoped the pair had a “lovely day.” We can’t imagine it was anything but lovely!

She also said, “I wish they’d had a better day,” referring to grey skies and rain showers that fell over London yesterday. But we think rain on your wedding day can actually be romantic, and this pair likely made the best of it.
