As a boyfriend and girlfriend, you and your significant other likely stuck to the traditional Valentine’s Day game plan: cards, flowers, chocolates, and dinner. Now that you’re engaged, you can stick to that expected February 14th program—or you can opt for something a bit unconventional. Here are four special ways to celebrate the love-filled holiday before you officially become husband and wife.

If you are all about family…
Invite all of the couples in your families over for a special group celebration. Ask each guest to prepare a dish to enjoy and set out plenty of champagne and chocolate. During the festivities, encourage the married folks in the bunch to divulge their secrets to a long-lasting, happy life as husband and wife.

If you are sentimental…
When the wedding planning begins, it’s easy to get wrapped up in all of the details of the big day. Use Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to remember why you got engaged in the first place. Visit a location that has special meaning for you as a couple, watch the movie you saw on your first date, or try to make the dessert you shared during a special night out early on in your relationship.

If you want to save some money…
Valentine’s Day isn’t cheap. Last year a survey conducted by the National Retail Federation revealed that most Americans intended to spend nearly $134 on candy, cards, gifts, dinner and other needs for the day. When you’re trying to save almost every penny for a wedding, that expenditure is an even bigger hit on your and your fiancé’s wallets. If forgoing Valentine’s Day celebrations completely isn’t an option, consider waiting a week or two to celebrate. By delaying your flower, candy, and dinner purchases, you can avoid inflated Valentine’s Day prices (and Valentine’s Day congestion at all of your favorite date spots).

If you just don’t want to plan anything else…
Whether you’re only weeks away from saying “I do” or you just started brainstorming for the big day, wedding planning can get overwhelming. If the last thing you want to do is plan another day dedicated to romance and grand gestures, don’t. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a stress-free day with no expectations.
